We provided needed upgrades to the gantry crane at Merwin Dam, which included demolition and replacement of all trolley components. We also demolished and replaced the steel access platforms.
Bridge trolley rails were demolished and replaced to accept new trolley components, and we inspected, removed, and replaced main hoist components. We also demolished existing steel access platforms and replaced with new FRP platforms. After refurbishment, we load-tested the gantry crane to 438 tons using water weights.
After refurbishment, we load-tested the gantry crane to 438 tons using water weights. Due to limited space, we had to design and fabricate a custom picking device that could accommodate extremely large water bags with enough volume to equal 438 tons. Additionally, the load test had to be performed above the operating powerhouse. We designed and implemented detailed processes, procedures, and mitigations to ensure we could control that quantity of water in case of failure. Due to our intense and detailed planning, the load testing was executed flawlessly.
